With railroads crisscrossing industrialized countries all over the world, the rail industry has been vital to passenger and freight transportation for over 200 years. As the industry responds to the changing needs of global markets, leaders have recognized the importance of providing educational opportunities such as the MSU Railway Management Program to develop future leaders in the rail industry.
Michigan State University Railway Management Program was created to provide the necessary education associated with railroad operations and management. The program covers many topics associated with railroad operations and management. These topics include a thorough working familiarity of internal operations, financial considerations, and customer service requirements that will enable fact based decision making. All of these topics are crucial to a successful railroad; however the program has identified company leadership as the most important topic covered. On completion of the program the students will be able to make decisions on complex issues, achieve measurable results, and develop leadership capacity resulting in overall efficiency and profitability.
FCM Rail has also recognized the importance of leadership and education in the railroad industry. In July of 2007, FCM Rail pledged $1,000,000 towards the development of the Railway Management Program. Sending seven of their own employees to the program, FCM Rail is a great supporter of the program. “The program’s curriculum was outstanding. The knowledge and networking gained through the four week program will be beneficial to me for the rest of my career,” said Daniel Daugherty Internet Marketing Specialist for FCM Rail.
